Marco Frankland wrote his first song over 35 years ago and has written, arranged, recorded and performed his own material since then.
He is a guest artist at music venues and festivals around West Sussex and is a performer at private parties and workshops.
Marco's teaching is about empowering creativity and expression through guitar, ukulele and vocal performance.
He is a musician that believes in grass roots music development and is passionate about supporting his community. In 2010 he was a founding member of MADhurst, Midhurst’s annual Music, Arts and Drama festival and founded the South Downs Ukulele Orchestra in 2013.
Marco’s song writing themes are drawn from his own experiences and his ‘sound’ is influenced by time spent studying, performing and recording in the USA. He writes for himself, for his students and takes commissions.
The songs he writes for schools are largely to entertain and engage his young audience whilst developing their ukulele skills. As a children's songwriter Marco has been published by Out of The Ark Music Ltd.
His other songs are drawn from the people and events that have shaped his life. He has released three EPs: ‘Big Sky’ in 2008 for UK charity Dreams Come True; ‘The Nashville Sessions’ in 2012 which was produced by Kim Copeland at Ragtop Studios, Music Row, Nashville; and more recently 'Please Don't Ask' released Spring 2021.
Marco’s teaching philosophy is about empowering creativity through music at all ages and capabilities.
He supports his students through all aspects of guitar, ukulele and vocal performance; nurturing their courage to explore, play, write and perform.
He works as a peripatetic music teacher in primary and secondary schools across West Sussex and Surrey and also provides one-to-one private lessons in students’ home settings and on line.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT MARCO
Sarah Hewlett, Parent
Marco has a wonderful way with students and really connects with them and teaches in a child led way.
He makes his sessions fun and engaging and is also a wonderful role model for our sons.
He is wonderful with a crowd.
He has a fun loving manner but doesn't dominate ... a brilliant musician and talent. ...
he can do anything!
Albert Curwood, Student
Throughout my years of being taught by Marco, he has supported me in not only the knowledge side of my musical journey, but also in the technological and performance aspects of it.
Marco works extraordinarily hard when teaching and in his free time to ensure that every student not only learns something new every lesson, but feels encouraged and enthusiastic to carry on learning and practicing with their instrument whenever they can.
He is an incredible teacher, musician and individual, and I can safely say that I would not be the musician I am today without Marco.
Richard Knight, Parent
I have never had to nag my son to practice guitar. An hour a week with Marco is enough to inspire him to practice pretty much every day.
Marco immediately earns the respect and attention of his pupils in part because of his style, but also because he is such a thoroughly accomplished musician.
His compositions are clever, witty and irresistable to kids.
They deserve a wider audience
